Performance Comparison between Delay-Tolerant and Non-Delay-Tolerant Position-Based Routing Protocols in VANETs

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are a new emerging recently developed advanced technology that allows wide group of applications related to providing more safety on roads, convenience for passengers, self-driven vehicles, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). There various routing protocol categories used in VANETs, like unicast, multicast, broadcast protocols. In unicast position-based protocols, the decisions based geographic position vehicles. This does not require establishment or maintenance routes but needs location services determine destination. Non-delay-tolerant network protocols (non-DTN), also identified as minimum delay aimed at minimizing delivery time information. Delay-tolerant (DTN) variety operating environments, including those subject failures interruptions with high delay, such VANETs. paper discusses comparison between non-DTN DTN belonging delay-tolerant category. The was conducted using NS2 simulator, simulations three were recorded. Simulation results show outperform ratio compared they lead average due buffering, processing algorithm, priority calculation. conclusion, suitable city environment since distance nodes is relatively smaller variations topology slower than highways. On other hand, highways buffering packets until clear route destination available.
